Touch of Heaven Opens at Crossroads Market

Touch of Heaven owner, Mary Blakely, has set up shop at the Crossroads Market. The Cross Roads Farm & Craft Market is located at the original settlement of Chautauqua County, N.Y. - where a "Cross Roads" occurred along the historic Portage Trail between Lakes Chautauqua and Erie. "I choose the shop at the market because all the crafts, arts and products are juried for quality before a vendor is approved to sell.

Blakey started beading jewelry when she was in the work force. Not only did the beading give her a creative outlet but she found she could coordinate her creations with her wardrobe. The jewelry creations fed her creative needs while it actually stretched her clothing budget.

Even though Blakey left the traditional work force she was still hooked on the need to create her jewelry. She filed all the paper work to set up her business, registered a domain and then began building a web site. As the web site was forming and taking shape she ventured into craft shows to promote the site and her products.

Blakey draws much of her inspiration through nature and scriptures. "I might see a color combination in the leaves of a tree and be inspired by that, or the colors of a sunset. Or I might read a particular passage from the Bible and be inspired by that..my Revelations Foundations line is an example of that."

Her greatest rewards are seeing someone wearing her jewelry and knowing they are enjoying her pieces. Frustrations come with the actual work on her web site. Blakely defines success as "Of course, I'd like to be able to make a profit, but success to me is more about providing something to someone that gives them pleasure and having a business that allows me to work around family needs."
